Named after English stonemason Thomas Cully, this Northeast neighborhood is a culturally diverse urban area with a mix of commercial and residential development. Cully is bordered by the Concordia, Sumner, Roseway, Rose City Park, and Beaumont-Wilshire neighborhoods.

 

VIBE AND STYLE

Cully largely consists of modest family houses such as ranches, smaller Craftsman styles, and starter homes. There is a strong sense of community identity and active neighborhood involvement within Cully. The Rigler Community Garden, a gathering place for children and adults to garden and provide a healthy food source, is a true testament to this.

 

LOCAL SCENE

From June through September, Cully Farmer’s Market is opened on Thursdays and offers live music, a pop-up library and an endless amount of sustainable and healthy food. Head over to 42nd Avenue to the many restaurants and cafes for an assortment of food and drink options. There are also a couple family-run businesses that are neighborhood fixtures on 42nd that provide the community with homemade goods.

 

OUTDOOR SANCTUARY

Aside from the Rigler Community Garden, residents of Cully also have Sacajawea Park and Whitaker Ponds Nature Park within their borders. Whitaker Ponds Nature Park has two ponds, a ½ mile loop trail, and a canoe launch into Whitaker Slough. A black cottonwood forest surrounds the ponds. The Lewis & Clark Garden features a huge collection of plant communities from across the United States. You won’t be the only visitor at the park with the wide assortment of animals that are frequent to the area.
