Artists and creatives of all kinds have had a particularly interesting year, from musicians and painters to crafters and actors. With the cancellation of art fairs and arts-focused events, many makers in our midst had to get creative with their income in 2020 and the first part of 2021. And here in Cannon Beach, we have several makers who could use our support. 

That’s why we’re highlighting a handful of talented makers based in Cannon Beach and nearby communities along the coast, so you know exactly where to shop for handmade gifts for your loved ones — or yourselfThere’s something for everyone on this list, from knitted accessories to wood-burned art and gorgeous jewelry to ceramic pottery.

Sarah McAllister is a local maker in Cannon Beach making a variety of beautiful pieces. She makes and designs jewelry that is a mixture of modern, beachy and Bohemian, including earrings, bracelets and necklaces. She also creates a collection of fun home goods and revamped pieces, including reclaimed wood signs and vintage jars. Sarah is also a photographer and creates fine art postcards and hand-stamped 100% recycled blank greeting cards. Shop her jewelry and cards here!

 

Nguyen Le of Knit Knit creates witty knit felt and crochet patterns that you can purchase and download to create your very own knitted creation at home! She sells a handful of knit patterns on her Etsy page, including mittens, a felt bag, a mug cozy and more. 

 

Established in 2017, Cannon Beach Soap and Candle makes safe and sustainable handmade soaps and bath products, most of which are vegan-friendly and all of which are made by hand in small batches. This local company maintains their ongoing standards of being palm-free, cruelty-free, phthalate-free and paraben-free. Shop their wide selection of body and bath products, from bath bombs to lotions, soaps to scrubs, and everything in between, including candles! 

 

Exit Sunset is a local family-owned business combining laser engraving and photography in a unique way. They specialize in cutting boards, which can be personalized with a custom design and are laser engraved in their home. Plus, Exit Sunset makes coasters, trivets, keychains, wooden spoons and other items. 

 

Katie George is a talented artist based in Astoria making stunning wood burned artwork, plus prints and stickers, that salute the natural world. Her work is intricate and eye-catching, featuring whales, mountains, octopuses, sharks, trees and other wildlife found along the coast. Hayley Rogers started Ocean Forest Pottery in 2006 at her home in Gearhart. She was inspired by the nature along the coast, from the wild ocean to nearby forests, and makes stunning handmade and wheel-thrown pottery that is both functional and creative. Sharon Amber is a Cannon Beach resident and artist creating beautiful jewelry, including rings, earrings, necklaces and chains. Sharon’s passion for jewelry began at the age of 10, and she now has more than 40 years of experience in the jewelry industry. She specializes in gold and carved stone, but also works in high fire enamel and silver, and is continually experimenting with new designs. No earring, pendant, ring or bracelet is the same as the last!   

 

Tammy Litwinchuk of Turtles Trees and Moons 

Tammy Litwinchuk is a watercolor artist based in Arch Cape who is known for her miniature paintings. Her originals stand no more than 3 inches tall, but feature an impressive amount of detail and skill. You can often find her mini paintings at Cannon Beach Makers!

Nina of The Koru Collection makes fiber art and biophilic designs in Seaside. All items are made from natural and/or organic materials, and often feature driftwood and moss locally sourced from the Oregon coast. Peruse her collection of macramé plant hangers, wall hanging tapestries and other items, or contact Nina to get started on a custom order! 

 

Janet of Stormy Weather Knits is based in Seaside and creates lots of warm quality knitwear, including hats, scarves, sweaters and more. Everything is hand knitted and can be shipped for free in the United States!
