Redmond

Redmond is a bustling high-desert community. Although Oregon gained statehood 45 years earlier, it wasn’t until 1904 that the first settlers Frank and Josephine Redmond established the first homestead of the area. With an irrigation system and electricity, the city developed quickly and was incorporated in 1910. The Oregon Trunk Railroad opened new markets for farmers, merchants and ranchers, fueling continued growth. During World War II, Redmond operated as a U.S. Air Force Base that later became the region’s only commercial airline airport, Roberts Field.

VIBE AND STYLE

Redmond is a fast-growing community that has maintained its pioneering spirit. The city radiates a welcoming attitude that preserves the small town appeal. Residents’ kindness and unique hospitality invites visitors and neighbors to participate in local events and celebrations. Families are attracted to the area for the positive community atmosphere and warm weather. An increase in population and community-enhancing projects have recently drawn more business owners and entrepreneurs to the city. Surrounding communities include Powell Butte, Prineville, Culver and Madras.

Redmond provides a variety of single family residences. New construction developments offer modern living in a traditional neighborhood setting surrounded by views of the impressive Cascade Mountains. Residents seeking a more rural environment can choose from quaint farm and ranch-style homes boasting several acres of land. Open lots are also available for customized luxury homes with panoramic views.

LOCAL SCENE

Located in the heart of the Redmond is the popular historic downtown area. Hosting dozens of shops, patrons frequent nostalgic ice cream and candy stores as well as fine art galleries and specialty clothing boutiques. Best known for its antique shopping, Redmond dealers offer an eclectic selection of treasures from the past. The alluring Eagle Crest Resort is a full-service destination situated on 1,700 acres of pristine property. Visitors choose from a variety of activities including world-renowned golfing, relaxing spa treatments and family fun at the outdoor pool and spray park.

OUTDOOR SANCTUARY

Redmond’s mild climate and limited rainfall create a perfect environment for outdoor recreation. No experience is necessary to participate in a guided Wanderlust Outdoor Tour. Isolate yourself in an off-trail tour of the scenic Cascade Mountains and Deschutes National Forest, or relax with a moonlit canoe ride under a sky full of stars. For adventure seekers, try an exciting journey down the rushing Deschutes River or climb a 550-foot high cliff on one of several rock-climbing routes at Smith Rock State Park.

Private mortgage insurance is an insurance policy that a residential mortgage lender requires of the borrower if the loan-to-value (LTV) ratio of the home is greater than 80%. Mortgage insurance protects the lender from the risk that the borrower may default on the loan. Federal law requires lenders to notify borrowers when the loan-to-value ratio drops below 80%. Mortgage insurance premiums vary, but generally range from $1,000 to $5,000 a year for an average priced home.
