Goose Hollow

Goose Hollow received its name from the migrating geese that would stop at the base of the Tualatin Mountains along the now-buried creek that ran through the neighborhood. Located in southwest Portland, adjacent to Washington Park, the Pearl District, and Downtown, Goose Hollow is one of Portland’s earliest neighborhoods. It has a charming mix of old and new design that captures the past while keeping an eye to the future.

VIBE AND STYLE

Although it sits close to NW 23rd Ave. and Downtown, two of Portland’s most modern neighborhoods, Goose Hollow radiates with beauty with its turn-of-the-century architecture. Many of the homes in this area are registered with the National Register of Historic Places, which makes Goose Hollow one of Portland’s best communities for a walking tour of the city’s history. Lincoln High School, the oldest school in the Pacific Northwest (founded in 1869) is located in the area and is considered one of the best public high schools in Oregon.

LOCAL SCENE

Goose Hollow is steps away from Providence Park, home of the Portland Timbers and Trimet’s MAX lines that run through the neighborhood and lead to anywhere in the city. CNNMoney.com named the neighborhood one of the country’s best for retirement, with its strong sense of community and its position on the edge of downtown. The face of Goose Hollow is constantly changing, as newer apartments, condos, and restaurants join some of the oldest in the city.

OUTDOOR SANCTUARY

Some of the best walking in Portland happens through Goose Hollow, as it is on perimeter of downtown and only a few blocks east of the Southwest Hills; home to the Oregon Zoo, International Rose Test Garden, and the Japanese Garden. Rain or shine, join the Timbers Army at Providence Park for food, drinks and chants.
