Portland Heights


Significant development of the Southwest Hills dates back to the late 1800’s, when a cable car was installed allowing year-round access to the heights; previously, winter rains had made the steep, dirt roads impassable. Portland Heights, along with Council Crest are located above Goose Hollow and downtown Portland.

 

VIBE AND STYLE

The guidebook Portland Hills walks maps out 20 meandering, view-studded strolls from forested canyons to cityscape peaks, including areas in Portland Heights. Forest Park, one of the largest urban parks in the United States, is only a few minutes away by bike or foot. The Portland Heights to Zoo Walking Tour is a 5.6-mile walk that combines stunning views of downtown, the Cascades and 19th-century homes along wooded paths. Other neighborhood parks include Portland Heights, Council Crest, Governor and Marquam.
