North Plains


North Plains celebrated its 100th birthday in early October 2010. The town was platted in 1910 by the Ruth Realty Trust Company of Portland. According to a hand-drawn map from 1911 found in an attic, there were 24 businesses in town including saloons, a candy store, novelty shop, dance hall, hotel and bank, among others.

Surrounded by picturesque farmland, creeks and forests, North Plains is a charming, rural town located just 19 miles west of Portland. It is a friendly place where neighbors get to know one another and are involved with the community. Its strategic location, natural beauty and small town appeal make it an attractive place to live. Although the town is rural, it is located only five miles from many global companies in the nearby high-tech Silicon Forest.  A 20-minute jaunt east puts you in the center of Portland, and a short trip west takes you to the rugged beauty of the Oregon Coast.

Residents can hop on over to one of the local wineries and enjoy the wonderful scenic views of the beautiful farmlands. Lakeview Farms is a 1,250 acre farm that produces 14 acres of pumpkins and serves over 50,000 visitors during the month of October. Patrons ride a paddleboat or train to the pumpkin fields and navigate their way through the corn maze. Loch Lolly Christmas Forest is one of the many “u-cut” Christmas tree farms that dot the landscape. Visitors can enjoy hot chocolate while feeding the ducks and geese after choosing the perfect tree.

 

OUTDOOR SANCTUARY

North Plains' big claim to fame is one of Oregon's most prestigious golf courses, Pumpkin Ridge, site of the 1996 U.S. Amateur Tournament won by Tiger Woods. Miles of country roads meander through and around the area attracting cyclists from all over the region. Horning’s Hideout is a perfect getaway for picnicking, camping, hiking or just a day of relaxation. This 25-acre recreational area is secluded in 120 acres of timberland in the serene Brunswick Canyon. There is a lake for fishing and paddle boating, a large covered stage for entertainment, and several elaborate play structures.
