La Pine


La Pine is a rural, Central Oregon city located in the heart of Deschutes County. The area remained sparsely inhabited until the late 1860’s when settlers began migrating to the Northwest region. After the establishment of the Central Oregon Military Road, stretching from Eugene to Eastern Oregon, traffic from the Willamette Valley radically increased. Several settlers acquired acres of viable land, established profitable ranches and homesteads, and the foundations of a city soon developed.

With an average of 300 days of sunshine per year, La Pine boasts an abundance of outdoor activities. The town’s proximity to the Newberry Volcanic National Monument provides fishermen an opportunity to catch trophy-sized Rainbow trout and Kokanee salmon, in the majestic East and Paulina Lakes. During the winter, locals flock to Mt. Bachelor for various snow-centered activities. The ski resort accommodates skiers and snowboarders of all levels, with several terrain parks to challenge their skills and abilities. Other snow park activities include cross country and alpine skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and sledding.
