An eco-smart shopper is an informed shopper. If you’re looking to add some green to your grocery list, get familiar with the following Earth-friendly logos.

 

 

 


USDA OrganicUSDA ORGANIC.

You’ll see this label on food products that have been produced without antibiotics, genetic engineering, or more synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.

 


Green SealGreen Seal.

This label is used on paper products (such as napkins, paper towels, and toilet paper) to indicate items that have been evaluated for environmental impact and have met recycling and bleaching standards.

 


Rainforest AllianceRainforest Alliance Certified.

You’ll find this label on coffee, chocolate, and bananas. It means that their manufacturers practice soil and water conservation as well as reduced use of pesticides.

 


FairtradeFair Trade Certified.

You’ll see this label on coffee, tea, chocolate, fruit, rice, and sugar. It designates food grown on small farms and promises that the farmers received a fair price for their goods.

 


HumaneCertified Humane.

This label appears on eggs and meat, indicating that the animals raised to produce the food products were treated humanely and were never given growth hormones or antibiotics.
