Vancouver is a fast growing city with a population of approximately 166,000 and is located across the Columbia River from Portland. After Lewis and Clark explored the area, interest in the region rapidly increased and attracted settlers migrating west. With the establishment of the Hudson’s Bay Company and Fort Vancouver, the city became a major civic center and was officially incorporated in 1846. Surrounding communities include Southcliff and Lincoln.
As Washington’s fourth largest city, Vancouver is metropolitan, but maintains the hospitality of a small town. Professionals and families are attracted to the area’s diverse economy and high tech, service and manufacturing industries. Residents are passionate about their community and preserving its history, while supporting responsible development.
Vancouver housing has undergone a recent revitalization which has created a unique mix of historic and contemporary architecture. Established neighborhoods offer northwest craftsman and bungalow homes with sensible front and back yards. Modern developments provide an eclectic variety of Portland homes from chic condos and townhomes to the occasional waterfront property.
Downtown Vancouver is alive with activity and hosts a variety of eateries, art galleries and shops. Local and nationally-acclaimed artists mold hot glass into extraordinary masterpieces on display at Firehouse Glass, located in the historic Vancouver National Bank Building. The farmers’ market provides quality local produce, high-end crafts, food, art and entertainment. Voted the Best Winery in Clark County, Bethany Vineyard and Winery is a connoisseur’s dream. Wine tasting and lakeside concerts attract visitors from near and far.
Vancouver is full of urban green spaces and parks. There are 44 miles of multi-use trails intertwining throughout, where you’ll find families walking dogs or exercise enthusiasts running and hiking. Esther Short Park is a popular summertime hotspot with amphitheater concerts, a community plaza and water play fountain. Some of the best fishing is located nearby providing fishermen the opportunity to catch steelhead, salmon and sturgeon.
