Bend is a dynamic city located in central Oregon near the foothills of the majestic Cascade Mountains. The expansive meadows and dense forests first attracted pioneers in the mid-1800’s. The area slowly developed into a small community supported by growing ranching and timber industries, and was officially incorporated in 1905. Designated the county seat of Deschutes County, the city became a significant logging station and thus experienced rapid economic growth. The quaint community of Tumalo is located ten miles to the northwest.
Bend is an inviting mountain town with a cosmopolitan appeal. Empowered by small businesses and savvy entrepreneurs, the area’s economy has seen substantial growth. The close-knit community is a supportive network of business owners, retirees and families. Residents are civic minded and friendly, engaging neighbors and visitors at the many local festivals, parades, fairs and school functions. The Les Schwab Amphitheatre is home to many events such as Pole Pedal Paddle and the Summer Concert Series. Locals are welcoming to people from all over; many do travel into the area to enjoy the entertainment.
Area homes reflect Bend’s developing atmosphere without impeding on its scenic beauty. New construction developments utilize natural materials and finishes but remain modern in amenities. Large luxury homes overlook waterfront property along the Deschutes River and some of the area’s impeccably manicured golf courses.
Contrary to the city’s size, Bend provides an abundance of entertainment and dining opportunities. Choose from an array of breweries, wine bars, galleries, boutiques and theater productions to satisfy your taste buds and fill your free time. Dine on fresh seafood and handmade sushi rolls at 5 Fusion & Sushi Bar, where a portion of the proceeds are donated to local non-profit organizations. A night out wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the historic and popular Tower Theatre. Dedicated to awakening, entertaining and educating the human spirit, the theater hosts several performances, educational opportunities, civic gatherings and social events.
With an extensive list of activities, Bend is an outdoor enthusiast’s year-round playground. Experiencing an average 30 feet of snow per year, visitors flock to popular Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort. Ranked as one of the top 50 Ski Resorts in North America by Conde Nast Travel, the resort provides snowbound entertainment for a variety of people. Activities include skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, sledding and sleigh rides. In the warmer seasons, ride through miles of marked trails on all terrain vehicles, bike through miles of trails, or raft down the adventurous Deschutes River.
