Where to Get the Best Pie in Portland

The holidays and cooler temperatures are right around the corner and we’re starting to dream about delicious, buttery pastry filled with seasonal produce, savory meat, whipped creams and much more!. 

Pie is the perfect addition to any Thanksgiving feast, holiday get-together or cozy night at home alone, but we don’t blame you if you don’t feel like making one yourself. Luckily, there are plenty of bakeries in PDX baking up amazing pie creationsYou’ll find a list of our favorites below. Enjoy!

Opened in 2011 in northeast Portland, Bakeshop is helmed by James Beard Award semifinalist Kim Boyce. She decided to open Bakeshop after she began experimenting with whole-grain flours, finding that they brought more flavor, texture and color to the plate. You can stop in and pick up one of her delicious pies, cookies, pastries and more from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Bakeshop’s menu changes every weekend, so be sure to stop by the website to see the offerings before you order.

Gluten Free Gem is an independent, family-run bakery located in the Lloyd District. Owner Ann Miller began baking gluten free at Corbette Coffee Plant in 2006 when her daughter was first diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Throughout the years, they have moved several times—and even changed their name to the one we know and love today—taking up residence in larger and larger locations to compensate for their vast popularity. Sweedeedee, located on Albina Avenue, is a cozy café offering homestyle fare that you can order right from the counter. They are first-come, first-served which means you can’t make a reservation. But if you do happen to nab a table at this popular restaurant, we promise the effort will be well worth it! After a fantastic brunch, lunch or dinner, be sure to order a slice of pie from their rotating selection with a dollop of house-made whipped cream.

When the owners of The Pie Spot decided they wanted to sell their amazing pie at local Portland’s farmers’ markets, they thought they had stumbled onto an amazing idea. Their only problem was—how were they going to serve the pies? In the end, they decided to ditch the fork and the plate and came up with the famous handheld version we know today. Coined “the cupcake of pie”, pies at The Pie Spot are hand formed and filled with delicious, unique fillings. They also have gluten-free options for those with gluten sensitivities as well as amazing cookies, cinnamon rolls made from pie crust, biscuits and even pie milkshakes!

This casual and cozy Australian-inspired café is a local destination for both sweet and savory pies! That means you could feasibly eat one whole meal here, starting with a warm and hearty beef pie or quiche and ending with a slice of seasonal fruit pie. Paiku 

Nestled on North LeavittePaiku is a comfortable café offering savory and sweet-filled pies—along with other menu offerings—for brunch and lunch, Thursday-Sunday. While stopping by and enjoying your Paiku pie in-person is a favorite weekend tradition for many, you can also order a whole pie ahead of time for holiday dinners, special occasions or family get-togethers. Choose from Chicken Pot Pie, Vegan Pot Pie, Spinach and Feta, Apple, Blueberry, Honey Almond, Lemon Chess and a selection of layered cakes, bread puddings, biscuits, cookies and more.

Petunia’s Pies and Pastries is a flourishing gluten free and vegan baking business that was started from the ground up by its current owner, Lisa Clark. Petunia’s creates a plethora of innovative pastries and desserts featuring fresh, seasonal, local and wholesome ingredients that are entirely gluten free and vegan! You can place an order online for pickup or delivery or you can visit them in-person and grab a vegan latte while you’re there.

It doesn’t hurt that they have a great menu too!
