Live Music + Events Are Back at The Lot at Zidell Yards in Portland

  |  Local Happenings, Neighborhood Insight, Portland

While the pandemic brought a plethora of challenges and inconveniences, there’s no denying the fact that there were a few exciting ventures and unique pivots — some we may want to hang onto for years to come (to-go cocktails, anyone?). Restaurants started offering extended outdoor seating and drive-in movies were back in vogue. But if we get invited to another Zoom happy hour or a virtual concert…

However, amidst all the creative altered events we endured for almost a year, there’s one thing we missed in particular: live concerts. There’s just something about experiencing music with all five of your senses — seeing the exciting lights and lasers, feeling the breeze on a cool summer night, smelling the food truck food, tasting the beer, and of course, hearing each note through speakers that work much better than your headphones.

So how do we remedy our heartache for in-person concerts and events in the wake of a pandemic? Enter: The Lot at Zidell Yards.

The Lot at Zidell Yards is a brand new socially distanced outdoor performance venue at Zidell Yards, a massive 33-acre riverfront site between the Tilikum Crossing and Ross Island Bridge in downtown Portland. It was once slated for a high-rise development but is eventually expected to become a 10,000-seat amphitheater in the future. In the meantime, the site serves as a pandemic-friendly event venue attracting a wide range of concerts and community happenings. It features separated pods you can reserve for two, four or six people. The venue originally opened with a capacity of just 260 people, but has recently expanded to include seating pod accommodations for up to 600 attendees.

The Lot features a full stage, a large format LED screen, a site-specific sound system, and an on-site food and beverage program, including gluten-free and vegetarian options. Plus, there is beer and wine available for purchase!
