Reasons We’re Thankful to Live in Bend, Oregon

  |  Central Oregon, Featured Neighborhood, Neighborhood Insight

There are so many qualities attracting new residents to Bend year after year, including its access to outdoor recreation, thriving craft beer culture, beautiful homes, and much more. Many travel here for vacation, but those of us lucky enough to live here are thankful to call this desirable city our home.

In fact, as we pause to count our blessings this Thanksgiving, let’s explore just a few of the reasons we are thankful to live in this idyllic city in the heart of Oregon.

Ever since Hasson expanded to Bend in 2005, we have remained committed to serving the communities throughout Central Oregon, from the heart of downtown Bend to Redmond and Sisters, and all the way south to Sunriver. Our brokers know the area like the back of their hand, as they have made their home here and spend their careers helping others do the same.

In preparation for Thanksgiving, we chatted with a few of our brokers in Central Oregon to hear why they are thankful to live in Bend.

1. Beautiful Views

With the serene desert to the east and towering mountains to the west, Bend is perfectly situated for some spectacular views and diverse scenery. Our prime location provides some jaw-dropping sights — from the backyard, place of work or simply while driving along the road.

Tara Farstvedt: “I love living in Bend for its changing seasons and the breathtaking views of the Cascade Mountains regardless of where you are in town!”

Mariah Luelling: “Bend is my hometown, and my family has been here for generations. You can’t beat the views, and you can drive 30 minutes in any direction and hit some kind of outdoor activity. It’s getting to be a big city, but still has the small town feel that everyone comes here for. I’m beyond grateful to live and work in such a beautiful place.”

2. Tight-Knit Community

With an estimated population of just over 90,000, Bend still manages to feel like a tight-knit community. Residents get to know their local baristas, servers, business owners, and of course, their neighbors.

Brooke Welter: “We have always wanted to live in a place we loved to vacation, so when we were offered the opportunity to move to Bend we did not hesitate to accept. Not only is Bend beautiful, but the community of people here is very special. It is a great place to call home and raise a family.”

3. Outdoor Recreation

To say Bend offers outdoor recreation is a massive understatement. In fact, there could be an entire list explaining the different outdoor qualities we appreciate about Bend! Oh wait, we already did that. Whether you prefer skiing, hiking, biking, rock climbing, kayaking or swimming, you can do pretty much any activity in Bend.

Sharon Nyberg: “Because of the access and ability to enjoy the outdoors year round. In Bend I can literally ski in the morning and ride my horse outdoors in the afternoon, pure paradise!”

Kira Camarata: “I am so thankful to live in Bend. I enjoy living here because of the close proximity to mountain biking, and skiing. The many trail systems for off leash dog walking. Clean air, smell of pine trees in the air, blue skies, sunny weather, and a Cascade Mountain view from most places in town. A culture of people who value recreation, hard work, and kindness to others. It’s easy to wear a smile when you live here!”

4. Craft Beer

Bend has more breweries per capita than any city in Oregon and has even been named “Beer Town USA”! The city is home to the renowned Deschutes Brewery, which is the eighth-largest craft brewery in the nation, but there are dozens of other smaller craft breweries worth mentioning. Plus, Bend hosts a number of annual beer-centric events, including Bend Oktoberfest, The Little Woody Barrel Aged Beer, Cider and Whiskey Festival, Bend Brewfest, and Central Oregon Beer Week.

5. Friendly People

Perhaps it’s the overall pleasant atmosphere of the city or the extra dose of Vitamin D residents get from all the sunshine, but Bend residents are known for their friendly, welcoming and charming spirit. Here, it’s common to be greeted with a smile, be engaged in casual conversation at the grocery store checkout line, or to have the door opened for you. There is a strong sense of community in this town and residents ensure that Bend remains kind and welcoming.

Edie DeLay: “After recently touring the United States for an extended time, I returned home to Bend and was again overwhelmed by the breathtaking scenery here! No other place compares. Perhaps it’s this natural beauty surrounding us that creates the easy-going vibe we enjoy. It’s a place where strangers still say hello on the sidewalk, shopkeepers take time to chat, and neighbors know and help one another. I’m very blessed to call Bend home!”

6. Pleasant Weather

According to Visit Bend, the city has the highest average number of sunny days in the state. There are an average of 158 days of clear skies with an additional 105 mostly sunny days in Bend. And many of the remaining days provide substantial sunshine. Typical weather in Bend includes sunshine, low humidity, and cool nights. This ample sunlight exposure creates a brighter and warmer atmosphere, perfect for enjoying the area’s many outdoor recreational opportunities.

8. Gorgeous Homes

We may be a bit biased, but one of our favorite qualities about Bend is the selection of homes. Due to the city’s consistent growth in popularity and population, Bend real estate includes a large selection of new construction properties. But you’ll find a myriad of homes for sale in Bend, ranging in size, style and price point.
