Whether you’re lucky enough to live in this darling town or you’re planning a trip to the coast in the near future, there are plenty of things to do in Cannon Beach. This quaint town maintains an action-packed annual events calendar, from arts festivals to beach cleanups, and garden tours to sand castle contests.

Savor Cannon Beach

This four-day festival offers a variety of food, wine and arts experiences all throughout Cannon Beach. Taste wines from over 40 Northwest wineries pouring tastings at art galleries, restaurants and retail shops. Plus, in addition to the ticketed festival events, many restaurants, galleries and shops will feature tastings, special dinners and other events throughout the weekend.


Whale Watch Week

Don’t miss the annual spring whale migration at Ecola State Park, one of the best places for whale watching along the coast. In late March, a fleet of enormous 35-ton gray whales head back towards Alaska to spend the warmer months. Catch a glimpse of the whale parade through the end of June at the many viewpoints along the coast.


SOLVE’s Spring Oregon Beach Cleanup

Since 1986, SOLVE has hosted a community-wide beach cleanup twice a year. Join thousands of volunteers for the spring cleanup in late March to clean up litter and marine debris from the entire Oregon Coast. Choose from one of the 45 beach cleanup sites, from Fort Stevens State Park near Astoria all the way to Harris Beach in Brookings.



Get Lit at the Beach

Calling all book lovers! Get Lit at the Beach is an annual literary festival bringing together authors and readers to celebrate a mutual love for books and reading. Attendees have the rare opportunity to meet best-selling and award-winning authors during presentations and book signings.



Spring Unveiling Arts Festival

Each May, the galleries in Cannon Beach celebrate art with the Spring Unveiling Arts Festival. Attend a reception and meet the artist behind your favorite watercolor landscape or chat with a renowned photographer. The weekend festival features unveilings, demos, artist receptions and presentations. Plus, many local restaurants and coffee shops join in on the creative fun with menu items inspired by works of art from local galleries.



North Coast Culinary Fest

North Coast Culinary Fest is a celebration of James Beard in Cannon Beach, featuring a weekend focused on culinary arts in the coastal region. A portion of the proceeds from North Coast Culinary Fest will be donated to the Seaside Culinary Institute.


Fat Bike Festival

The Fat Bike Festival offers a weekend of fun events, including a sunset beach ride and bonfire with Fat Bike games and activities. Plus, enjoy a Saturday poker ride and after party hosted at a local pub. Grab your friends and family and participate in the first Fat Bike Festival on the Oregon Coast!



Cannon Beach Sandcastle Contest

Mark your calendars for the annual Cannon Beach Sandcastle Contest in June, as dozens of teams of professional sand sculpture artists, amateur groups, and families construct remarkable sand creations on the beach. This is the oldest competition of its kind in the PNW and the most popular event in Cannon Beach. All weekend long, enjoy other activities, including a beach bonfire, live music, a 5K run/walk and more.


Plein Air & More Arts Festival

Enjoy the scenic beauty and small-town charm of Cannon Beach at the annual Plein Air & More Arts Festival, an outdoor display of art throughout town. This multi-day event features the work of nearly 30 artists, live music, raku firing on the beach, receptions and more.



Fourth of July

On the Fourth of July each year, the town of Cannon Beach celebrates with a festive parade, a symphonic band concert in the park, and The Great Cannon Beach Puffin Watch. There may not be any fireworks at this Independence Day celebration, but there is plenty to do and see for all ages!




Celebrate craft beer at the annual Hayday! festival at Haystack Gardens near Haystack Rock. Hosted by Public Coast Brewing, Hayday! will feature 40 incredible Oregon craft beers on tap, including multiple taps from Public Coast. Plus, enjoy delicious eats and live music from talented artists.



Cannon Beach Cottage & Garden Tour

Each September, the Cannon Beach History Center & Museum hosts a special cottage and garden tour, showcasing the many vintage cottages, beautiful gardens and dream homes in town. This weekend-long series of events includes concerts, wine tasting, a luncheon lecture, and English-style garden tea.


SOLVE Beach & Riverside Cleanup

Join SOLVE and thousands of volunteers for their second cleanup of the year. This fall cleanup is focused on the health of public beaches, neighborhoods and natural areas, and volunteers will clean up litter from the source to the sea! Choose from over 100 litter cleanup and restoration projects throughout the state, including 45 beach cleanup sites all along the coast. This is a family-friendly event and all Oregonians are invited to participate.


Earth and Ocean Arts Festival

This brand new arts festival has a unique focus — on raising awareness of the pristine coastal region through an appreciation of the arts. Admire the work of talented artists who represent the majestic ocean environment in their work, plus artists who use their visual expressions to encourage preservation of the beaches, forests, and waterways of the region. A portion of the festival proceeds will assist environmental organizations focused on protecting Oregon’s North Coast Region.


Cannon Beach Library Annual Fall Festival

Celebrate the start of fall at the Annual Fall Festival at the Cannon Beach Library. Choose from a variety of baked goods and handmade crafts available for purchase, all created by the dedicated and talented volunteers at the library. All proceeds help fund the library!



Dog Show on the Beach

Have a blast with your dog while helping local dogs in need. This annual just-for-fun dog show on the beach benefits the Clatsop County Animal Shelter, which provides care and protection for hundreds of homeless, unwanted, abandoned and abused or neglected dogs and cats. Dogs compete in a friendly competition with over 20 categories, including a doggy dash, best trick, best costume, owner look-alike and more.



Stormy Weather Arts Festival

Taking place each year on the first weekend of November, the Stormy Weather Arts Festival has been one of the town’s most popular events for over 30 years. This multi-day event focuses on a wide range of visual and performing arts, including music, art, fashion, and culinary art. Enjoy live musical performances, art gallery receptions, beer tasting and much more at this creative event.


Haystack Holidays

Haystack Holidays is a series of holiday events starting in November. Celebrate the magic of the holiday season with a variety of festivities in November and early December, including WOW! Cannon Beach, Mimosa Madness, the downtown Lamp Lighting Ceremony, a special holiday concert and much more.

Haystack Holidays is a series of holiday events all throughout the month of December. Celebrate the magic of the holiday season with a variety of festivities in December, including the downtown Lamp Lighting Ceremony, pictures with Santa, Holiday Foods Around the World, the Winter Holiday Concert, and more.


Whale Watching

If you watched the whales migrate up to Alaska in March, see them pass by again as they head for the warmer waters of Mexico in December through mid-January. Nearly 20,000 whales pass by Cannon Beach during this beautiful migration. One of the best places to see this phenomenon is Ecola State Park!
