Independence Day is typically filled with BBQs, live music, swimming, fireworks, and all things patriotic. Our nation’s independence is certainly worth celebrating each year! This year, the Fourth of July falls on a Wednesday, which provides a perfect opportunity to split up the week with quintessential summertime activities.
Lake Oswego is the place to be on the Fourth of July. This affluent suburb of Portland has plenty in store — from exclusive boat parades to live musical performances, and everything in between. Mark your calendars with these patriotic events taking place in Lake Oswego throughout the week. (Hint: Pay special attention to the popular Star Spangled Parade and Celebration!)

Tuesday, July 3 | 7 p.m.

Get in the spirit for the Fourth of July with a number of patriotic songs performed by the Lake Oswego Millennium Concert Band on Tuesday, July 3 at Millennium Plaza Park. This talented concert band is comprised of adult volunteers who love to play band music and are dedicated to providing high quality musical performances to the citizens of Lake Oswego and the surrounding area. The concert starts at 7 p.m. and admission is free! In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the Lakeridge High School auditorium.
Tuesday, July 3 | 7 p.m.
Join talented singer and folklorist Cecelia Otto at the Lake Oswego Public Library with her performance of “A Celebration of America”. The show will feature a series of patriotic songs from a variety of periods in American history and a sing-along of “The Star-Spangled Banner”. This free concert is made possible by the Friends of the Lake Oswego Public Library!
Wednesday, July 4 | 10 a.m.
One of the more significant events during the week is the Star Spangled Parade and Celebration hosted by the City of Lake Oswego. The parade kicks off at 10 a.m., and will feature an authentic Fife & Drum Band, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, a performance from Last Regiment, classic cars, and more. Continue the celebration at Millennium Plaza Park with live music from Gospel Hooligans, a presentation of colors from local Boy Scouts, face painting, balloon animals, a pie eating contest, food trucks, and much more. The celebration at the park will go from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
End the day with a bang at the spectacular fireworks show over the lake starting at approximately 9:30 p.m. This spectacular display, which lasts about 20 minutes, features an explosion of color and light. You can view the show from George Rogers Park Upper Ballfield, Foothills Park and Millennium Plaza Park.
Wednesday, July 4 | 12 p.m.
Join the Lake Oswego Corporation for their annual boat parade around the lake! The parade will gather at the Lake Grove Swim Park at noon. Lannie and the Instagators will play for the crowd for about 30 minutes before the parade begins. You may decorate your boat with patriotic decor, although decoration is not necessary to join in the fun! The parade will conclude in Lakewood Bay.
Wednesday, July 4 | 9:45 p.m.
Each year, Western Display Fireworks produces a fantastic fireworks show from a floating barge in the west end of the main lake. There will be hundreds of boaters dotting the lake to take in views of spectacular fireworks overhead. Hop in your boat and bring an anchor and flashlights to be a part of the excitement! Or simply view the show on blankets and lawn chairs at Lake Grove Swim Park with family, friends and neighbors.
Saturday, July 7 | 10 a.m.
This annual event in Lakewood Bay is open to Lake Oswego Corporation shareholders and easement members. All ages and abilities are welcome to participate in the interactive ski and wakeboard show, which features prizes for all participants. Call 503-636-1422 or email email@example.com to sign-up. Early registration is encouraged and appreciated! Registration for the waterskiing event begins at 9 a.m. and the show starts at 10 a.m. Registration for the wakeboard freestyle event begins at 12:30 p.m. and the show starts at 1 p.m.
Saturday, July 7 | 5 p.m.
Lake Oswego Corporation shareholders and easement members may attend this exclusive and exciting annual event in Lakewood Bay! Watch as the Portland Water Spectacular team performs various stunts, including barefoot skiing, tricks and jumps, skiing pyramids, and much more. The show starts at 5 p.m. and is not open to the general public.
